Trenton, NJ asked in Child Support for New Jersey

Q: I dont think you understood my question. He has mental issues and does not like to work. I DO NOT want his child support

It is not worth the time or effort for $50 a week. I want a good reason to end future child support so I do not have to deal with this man any longer. She has been supported by me 90% of the time, we do not need him. The only reasons I can think of is saying we are reunited. Is there any other reasons that a court would grant an order to end child support before a childs 18th birthday? Again, I DO NOT WANT any further child support.

A: If the child is a minor and unemancipated you'll need to file an application with the court. You'll need to convince the judge that you're financially capable of supporting the child yourself and that terminating child support is in the best interests of the child. But NJ courts have the discretion to deny requests/agreements they find inequitable. For this reason, the court is likely to decline to terminate his child support obligation.
