Q: Financial separation before divorce?
My husband of 19 years surprise me with divorce paper few months ago and cancel the divorce few weeks later. He acts strange since then. we live in Arizona and he works in other state. I take care of the kids while he is working. He comes home every 2,3 weeks for 2 days. His income always paid for our expenses. He close the only joint account we had last week now he is asking me to pay for 35% of the expenses at home or he will sale the house we live in with my kids. I have a part time job that is not covering 10% of expenses. Also we had a second house that we purchase during marriage. last year He lie to me and ask to sign something like " quite claim" paper. He said he needs it to refinance the house. I asked a realtor if it is ok to give him the paper, she said yes. But know he said that is his house and I don't have nothing in it. He is a planner. He narcissist, and he control every thing . I don't have access to any document. He has forwarded all his mail. what should I do?
A: It appears that your husband is doing some pre-divorce planning intended to prejudice your rights. I recommend immediately consulting with a family law lawyer so that you know your legal rights and your best options. Your family law lawyer will learn all of the facts of your case and is the best one to advise you. In the meantime, start assembling copies of all important financial papers such as tax returns, deeds, car titles, loan documents, credit card statements and bank account statements so you can inform your family law lawyer as to what is owned and what debts exist.
