Q: Is there a way to keep a speeding ticket off your record in Texas?
Or what is the best way to go about with a speeding ticket?
Also, does it make a difference if you sign or don't sign a slip they give you while getting your ticket? I didn't necessarily refuse to sign, but asked if I could get more information before signing. And the police just said he'll put it as a refusal, then explained to me about the ticket.
A: Refusing to sign for a citation has no bearing on the final outcome. In fact, since signing the ticket is actually signing a personal recognizance bond and promising to appear in Court as stated on the citation, refusing to sign CAN give the officer the right to take you to jail and post a bond (although that rarely happens). There is no "Traffic Ticket Defense for Dummies", nor a cut-and-paste formula that assures dismissal of a ticket. Nothing is guaranteed, and the questions of what the ticket is for, where the ticket is pending and what the particular circumstances are surrounding the incident make the outcome vary for each instance. Contacting a local attorney is always a good idea.
