Detroit, MI asked in Traffic Tickets for Michigan

Q: I've just received notice to contact a court for a ticket I paid years ago. What do I do?

A notice came to me today, 2/8/18, for "prohibited parking snow emergency" dated 12/14/13. I handled the matter at the time and paid my ticket. Why am I being contacted about something I've already taken care of? Can they make me pay again? What do I do? The mail didn't arrive until after 5pm today so I can't contact the court until tomorrow due to their extremely accommodating closing time of 4:30pm. Why am I only now being contacted after more than 4 years if they think I owe them? Why am I being bothered about something that I've already paid off and that seems so miniscule an infraction to begin with?

A: Call the court tomorrow and ask them what this is about. I hope you have proof of payment from back at the time. Sometimes courts do make mistakes, and they can misfile things. Be very clear that you paid it. Sincerely, Frank B. Ford
