Q: Will jail time be a consequence?
Over the course of a few months my boyfriend has gotten in trouble on multiple occasions for speeding. He is 17 years old and they put him on probation. They said he had to stay ticket free until June, but just this past Wednesday he got a ticket for speeding and now he has to go to court. I am very worried, I have so many questions. Will they charge him as an adult?, is jail time possible?, and so much more.
A: For criminal law purposes, a 17 year old is an adult. What will happen in your boyfriend's particular case depends on: 1) the court where he was placed on probation for on the first ticket, and; 2) where the second ticket is pending.
