Vassar, MI asked in Traffic Tickets for Michigan

Q: I never registered my car this year do to I have no job and struggling, I was pulled over by a officer and got citation.

Went to court told them my financial trouble, and that the officer told me usually if you get your car registered they usually charge nothing, even though I didn't, and told them that. Was told you could tell the prosecutor that, was given court date. And I still have no funds. Would they give me an extension?

A: What they have probably scheduled a court date for is a Pre-trial, where you will meet with the prosecuting attorney for the jurisdiction that issued the ticket. You can tell the prosecutor your situation, and they might be willing to give you more time to get the vehicle registered, by either scheduling another Pre-trial, or scheduling it for trial. This could buy you some more time. Sincerely, Frank B. Ford
