Houston, TX asked in Traffic Tickets for Texas

Q: I got a citation for run at stop sign in TX. If I leave US withouth paying and I come back in CA, will I be arrested?

I'm in TX as foreign student and got my first citation for run at stop sign. I have court appointment, it's the second because I asked more time, but I think it's not right for me to pay because the sign was not very visible due to hurican harvey damages. They told me that in no case my citation will be dismissed. In the other hand, I'm also interrupting my study and coming back in my european country for personal reasons. I'm 100% sure I won't come back in TX again in my life, but I'd like to visit Los Angeles and California 1 day. My question is, if I leave TX (and a warrant will be issued at my name) and I come back in CA in 3 years, do I risk to be arrested or the warrant for traffic citation is valid only in TX? Thank you

A: A warrant for a traffic citation is the same as a warrant for murder; it is basically an order for law enforcement to take a person int custody, and is effective in all 50 states of the union. You may also have issues in returning to the country if a warrant is outstanding. Contact an attorney in the county where the ticket is pending and resolve the matter before you leave.
