Hackensack, NJ asked in Traffic Tickets for New Jersey

Q: I was mailed a ticket for following too close.

The make / model / color / licence plate number were all wrong. I do not own a car with any of the corresponding information in the ticket. However, the drivers licence number was mine, and the name was mine on the ticket. I was never pulled over, so they can't say I was driving someone else's car. How can I possibly even be getting this mailed to me?

A: I would say about 5% of all tickets today are mailed to people. the fact that some of the information on this ticket is wrong, does not invalidate the ticket, but will make it easier to try to defend it, especially if you were not driving the car at the time indicated on the ticket. Tailgating is a 5 point ticket. Also know that today many traffic lights have video camera's in them so if you lie you were not driving when you where you could get in a lot more trouble than the ticket, thus the reason to always hire a lawyer on these types of tickets.
