Port Orange, FL asked in Car Accidents for Florida

Q: I was involved in an accident and had agreed to fix the other persons car at a place I know but they took it elsewhere?

I had agreed to pay for the fixing of their car out of pocket at a place that I know. They call me about a month after the incident saying they’re not going to that place and they’re going to a place of their own and they want me to pay a price thats super over charged. Since there was no police report filed, what can I do now to avoid causing a problem with the insurance?

A: Short answer, not sure. I think that you should have turned in the accident to your insurance when it happened. That is why you pay for insurance is for situations just like this.

You may want to now report the accident, but keep in mind your insurance may not have to cover now as they probably have a clause in your contract that obligates you to notify them of an accident within a set number of days. (Since I never read your policy there is no way for me to say for sure).

You should probably consult with an attorney in your area to go over your policy before you do anything further.
