Q: Am I expected to not report to work if my work schedule conflicts with my parenting plan visitation schedule?
I recently relocated from FL to MD with my son for my career. My new parenting plan states that my son spend every spring break with his father who still resides in FL. Spring break here starts on Friday and they go back on the following Tuesday so its only a long weekend, not the full week like in FL (which is what we thought when we made the agreement). I can not get off work on Friday or Saturday to fly my son down to FL for the weekend (my parenting states that I must accompany my son to FL and his father must accompany him back to MD). Can the courts demand that I not show up to work in order to uphold the agreement? My ex is insisting that I just not go to work. I will likely not have a job if I choose to do that. I told him it would easier on both of us and our son if he just came up for the weekend and stayed here as a compromise. He is not in agreement. What should I do? What will be the most likely outcome if he decides to take it to court to hold me in contempt?
A: Your son has to be in Florida for Spring Break. How he gets there is between the two of you. If you cannot fly down with him, you need to make other arrangements.
