Q: Hubby traded vehicle for tax services, failed to report the sale. Tax guy never reg., was involved in hit and run, left

Our tax info in the truck. Was impounded. We have since filed the sale, within the 7 days. Still held responsible by tow company for bill and cannot do our taxes. Tax guy was willing to sign filing of sale ut has since disappeared, refuses to work with police to allieviate the situation for us. Any suggestions?

A: You have personal property in the vehicle. You can ask the cops to tell the tow yard to stop being pirates and let you have the tax materials. They are given a license to charge outrageous amounts (legally) for towing and storage. Holding on to your tax information is bogus. If Cops won't help, call the DA, call your local legislators, call the newspaper--and ask for an extension. And with all due respect to tax servicers, use a CPA.
