Leesville, LA asked in DUI / DWI for Texas

Q: I need to know how I can get an extension of a "Temporary Driving Permit"? (I want to keep my job)

I received a DWI in Galveston County Texas. I have a Louisiana Driver's License. The sheriff's office took my license upon arrest. I was issued a 40 day "Temporary Driving Permit". It will expire before my court date(I have not received a court date and the permit expires in eight days) . I have a job and I must drive to work.

A: You had 15 days from the date your license was confiscated to request a hearing on your license suspension (see the fine print on the bottom of the form). Understand Texas does not have the ability to suspend a Louisiana driver's license, but the DPS in Austin will notify Louisiana of your arrest and breath test failure/refusal. Contact an attorney in that State to discuss the effect of this notice. Good luck.
