Q: My neighbor is threatening to trap my cat and take him to a shelter if he poops in her yard. What can I do?
This is the first time I've heard about it, so I put in outdoor sandboxes in my yard and filled my yard with catnip. I also bought her cat repellent pellets and put an ultrasonic cat repeller on the edge of my lawn, pointed to hers to keep my cat away. He was an outside cat before given to us and he's miserable when we try to keep him in.
A: First of all, your neighbor cannot take your property without your permission: that is civil theft. However, because this person sounds like he or she is extremely difficult, put a collar on your car and microchip him in case your neighbor does take your cat to a shelter. If the cat is received at a shelter, you will be notified because of the mccrochip. If that happens, you can sue this neighbor for civil theft. It sounds like you have gone above and beyond to accommodate his neighbor’s unreasonableness. I’m curious as to know how this neighbor thinks he/she will know that your cat pooped in the yard, versus any other cat or animal!

A: Many municipalities allow trapping of cats on an owner's property regardless of whether there is a cat leash law. Some, like Aurora, go further by having a cat leash law. Keep your cat inside. Outdoor cats average life span is 2 years. Also chip and collar, but if he's off your property, it's pretty much fair game for anyone to grab him or trap him and bring him to the pound.
