Lambertville, NJ asked in Traffic Tickets for New Jersey

Q: Travelling to New Jersey and got cell phone ticket

I am from Colorado. I was in for a wedding. I was navigating to the venue. The phone got locked. So i unlocked it while driving. I got pulled over by the cop and he mentioned that he pulled over for cell phone usage. I was not aware of the law. What are my chances? I leave back to Colorado tomorrow. but the court date is 7/10/2018

A: According to the law itself your chances of winning are good. The reality of the situation is most judges will find you guilty. It is a mandatory court appearance so you will need to come to court otherwise a warrant could issue for your arrest. A lawyer may be able to appear on your behalf but to fight these tickets is very expensive.

A: Just pay it. Not allowed? Call court tell em you're from colorado and you'll plead guilty by mail and to send you the forms for you to sign and mail back with the check. No other option such as fighting the ticket or hiring a lawyer considering you're from out of state is worth the expense.
