Q: how bad is trafficking firearms? how many years could a person get?

my husband is being charged with this and alot of other things. hes in alot of trouble just trying to figure out what i need to do for him.

he is also being charged with 3 grand larceny chargers, carrying a concealed weapon, receiving stolen property. hes got the charges in 2 different county's.

A: Pretty bad. For trafficking firearms, a person convicted will be in MDOC custody for not less than 15 years. Keep in mind that that does not include the additional charges in the different jurisdictions, which could add substantial jail time on top of the trafficking charge. Typically, such cases are very fact intensive, and require a lot of work on the front end if the person plans to go to trial, or a lot of time trying to negotiate a deal with the DA's office, if the person wants to avoid a trial in the hopes of getting a lighter sentence. Regardless, he needs to speak with an attorney as soon as possible, as getting help on the front end can make a lasting difference later in the case.
