Q: how do I respond at POE while reentering usa on B1/B2
i have b1/b2 valid untill 2026. i landed in usa in jan 2017 and got married to US citizen and applied for my Green card. we got seperated before my GC was approved. and now i am divorced and my GC petition is withdrawn by my Ex husband. i moved back to canada in october 2017.
I want to get married and I tried collecting my divorce decree via mail last month from court in usa. but I haven't heard back from court. so I thought to go personally collect it to make it faster. Also since I got separated and I didn't know the outcome. I have left my belongings in usa and I would like to collect it. its jewelry and other stuff. what are my consequences facing the officer at the border. can you please advise what reason I give border officer so that my entry is not denied. should i say that i want to collect divorce papers or my belongings or both?
A: You should tell the truth. You can get your divorce papers by mail through the court, but coming to the US to collect your belongings is a valid reason to come to the US.
