Arlington, TX asked in Traffic Tickets for Texas

Q: I have warrants out for my arrest from three tickets back in January. When I went online to check on the tickets,

I noticed there are now five citations. I was expecting the three, and a fourth for failure to appear, but there is also a violation of promise to appear. How is failure to appear and violation of promise to appear separate citations? Also, online it says the max fine for these tickets is $200, but on both of them I have been charged $242.. is there anything I can do myself to get at least one of these citations dismissed, or at least get the fine dropped a bit, due to Texas law stating max fine is 200.

A: Failure to Appear and Violate Promise to Appear are separate offenses. The $200 maximum fine for class c misdemeanors does not include court costs, late, warrant, or collection fees. Call a local lawyer to see what can be done. Good luck.
