Lumberton, TX asked in Traffic Tickets for Texas

Q: I received another speeding ticket while fighting my current speeding ticket. Will this effect me?

I received a MIP for having empty bear bottles & one full one in the bed of my truck & Unsafe Speed ticket while doing donuts on an unoccupied section of the beach back in March. On my way to work this morning I was stopped by a Texas DPS officer for doing 15 MPH Over the speed limit, as well as I received a warning for my window tint. I am still fighting my MIP & Unsafe Speed ticket. The court was willing to dismiss the Unsafe Speed ticket all together but I didn't like the terms of the MIP plea bargin, so I'm fighting for a better deal in court which still has not been resolved. I have not taken defensive driving, and these are the only tickets I have received. They are in different county's, Same state. My question is: Can I take defensive driving for this ticket to get a dismissal and still have the one from march dismissed as well? And will the tickets affect each other & my MIP? Exp.. When I go back to court?

A: You may take a defensive driving class to resolve one of the moving violations. You must speak with an attorney in the county where your other citations are pending to discuss the effects one may have on another; each Judge has discretion on programs and requirements available to avoid convictions. Good luck.
