A: Unfortunately, given the high standards and resources necessary to defend a capital murder case, the chances of obtaining pro bono counsel are rather slim. Your daughter's best bet is going to be to await an appointment of a public defender to represent her. One recommendation that I would have is to make sure that the attorney is qualified to defend a capital murder case, either as first chair or as second chair. In Mississippi, our rules are very specific as to the qualifications necessary to defend a capital murder case, and, to be quite frank, there are only a small number of us who are actually qualified through experience and/or training to handle such a case.
