A: You have to generally be treating within the employer's medical provider network and all treatment requests need to approved by the insurance carrier Utilization review department.

A: If your employer/insurance company has a medical provider network, MPN, you are to treat with the doctors within their network. However there are exceptions: going to the emergency room, if your case is denied, if the doctor within a specific specialty is not in the network, or the doctor is too far away. There may be are legal reasons why you can treat outside of the MPN however those are very fact specific.
