Q: State gave my wife money from her grandmothers estate and now saying they should of given some to her siblings.
My wife doesn't have a relationship with her siblings and thought the state had contacted or at least tried to and was giving them money. Now the state (California) is finding out there are other siblings. Can the state take back the money or make my wife payback? What if she spent the money already? She is so upset because she thought this was money she was entitled to and she's worried about what can happen now. Thanks
A: If she received more money than she was entitled to, then yes, she must return what isn't hers.
