Marion, IL asked in Estate Planning for Illinois

Q: Do I have any claim to my best friends home if anything happens to them?

I do have a question but I would probably have no legal claim to the property but still curious. My best friend and her husband many years ago we're having problems with thier familes because of past abuse issues they had both grown up with. But they stopped all contact with their families many years ago. Since then I have been living in their home helping pay the mortgage. They received a multi family loan. But the home is in their names. If my best friend and her husband both passed away....like with a car accident or something similar. Praying that never happens. Would I have any legal claim of our property?

If I can prove for many years I contributed to the morgage? I have not talked to them about this yet. But I'm sure that the property they would never want their families getting it. Just curious if I would have any type of legal claim or could they get it anyway if there was no will made?
