Q: I was asked today to call a detective regarding a shoplifting incident. I’m not sure how to handle this.
I don’t know if I should offer my side of the story or answer any questions. I’m not sure how to handle this.
A: You should never speak to the police without a lawyer present. Watch some TV they will show you what a police officer can do. They can lie to you, they can make you say things you don't mean to say. They can even make you not remember certain things and then all of a sudden even that will be used against you in court. Police officers go to school to learn how to get confessions get yourself a lawyer to even up the playing field.
A: Worst thing you can do is speak. You'll think you're talking yourself out of trouble while you're sinking. You have right to remain silent and right to an attorney. Use your rights!
