Philadelphia, PA asked in Criminal Law for New Jersey

Q: My 17 yr old son was charged with 2C:29-1A he was in a park with friends and ran from police without anything illegal on

His person. He was scared and ran with everyone else. He was released to a family member from the police station, never put under arrest or anything. They told us to wait for the paperwork in the mail. He has court tomorrow and the paperwork received said he needs a lawyer. Is this a serious charge? What are the possible outcomes?

A: Sounds like a misdemeanor that's being handled in juvenile court so he should get a lawyer to avoid a juvenile record.
