Owensboro, KY asked in Animal / Dog Law for Kentucky

Q: Someone trying to take dog back

My wife's brother in law sold me his 6 month old puppy because he could not take care of it. His ex girlfriend at the time of the purchase, is registered as his owner at his veterinarian clinic because he is under age and could not sign for him, and now they are back together and she wants him, what can I do in this situation? She will not sign the release of the dog at the veterinarian, and my wife is pregnant and attatched to this dog.

A: Switch veterinarians. Vet records don’t resolve disputed ownership and the new vet won’t know about the disputed. You have the dog and possession is 9/10 of the law.
