Annandale, NJ asked in Criminal Law for New Jersey

Q: I put a hamburger in someone’s mail box and they said they were going to call the police. Will I get a criminal record?

Hello, I am 17 years old and I live in the state of New Jersey. I put a hamburger in someone’s mailbox and they said they contacted the police. Could I get a criminal record for this? I am trying to go to college and I really hope this doesn’t threaten my chances. If I get fined for this, will it go on my record? This may seem like a joke but it really isn’t. If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it. I’m kind of freaking out about it and I would like to know what could potentially happen to my future.

A: Probably nothing will happen but if it does it would be considered an harassment charge.

A: It's doubtful that you'll get into criminal charges for this prank but if you do then it'll go to juvenile court and it won't have much of an impact on your life. I wouldn't lose sleep over this but don't let your behavior escalate.
