Carson, CA asked in Criminal Law and Federal Crimes for California

Q: My ex brother-in-law is filing abetted kidnapping of his children charge on me.

My sister asked me to use my credit card details to purchase an airline tickets as her debit card was declined, to fly outside United States with her kids and she flew without telling her ex-husband (father of the kids). She flew because someone in the family was sick. My sister and ex brother in law are divorced and according to the sister she has the custody of the children. So the ex brother-in-law is threatening me that he will file a criminal case against me that I abetted kidnapping of his children. He reached out to police and police reached out to me and verified that the kids and the mom are safe and that the mom is an adult. The cop also said that you were just helping your sister. I just offered my credit card to help my sister and I didn't know that she didn't tell her husband. What should I do ? What kind of charges can he file on me ? Please help.

A: You should never talk to police without your lawyers ok.

It doesn’t sound like you did anything wrong but I would still rather your lawyer explained all this
