Q: What's the standard penalty for a second speeding ticket in NJ? If they happened far apart, does it make a difference?

A: It is very difficult to answer your question, as Speeding tickets go by speed.

Up to 14 mph over is 2 points, 15-29 is 4 points and 30+ is 5 points

Fines range anywhere from 50-200 dollars administrative and

1 -9 mph over is 85 (140 if violation of safe corridor or in Construction Zone)

10-14 mph over is 95

15-19 mph over is 105

20-24 mph over is 200

and it keeps going up from there.

A: In general the penalties if you pay online or thru the mail are the same and are based on your speed over the limit, type of zone you are in etc. no matter how many you get. The penalties when you go to court can be different because the judge can see your prior record and possibly give you a higher or lower fine or even suspended your license etc, if the judge thinks your a bad driver, the reason why many people hire lawyers to win or reduce the penalties they face.

A: Depends on the speed. You can go on NJMCDIRECT.com to find out or call the court. Doesn't make diff as to time unless you're downgrading to unsafe driving.
