Q: My landlord is not the legal owner of my home. My cousins dead wife was until 6/22/18 but he signed a lease is it legal.
My cousins wife died 4 years ago. The bank never took the house back, but a non relative swore he bought the home and has been renting it out. He signed a lease, yet the legal owner is tammy who is dead. All taxes show in her name and documents show she sold it back to the bank in June of these year. Yet, she has been dead so she cant sell it back. No place does it show this landlords name. He now tells me he has a buyer and wants 1300 by the 2nd then another 5600 by the 15th or me and my girls have to move. I have lived here since Feb 22 2018. I was told he owned the house which is not true at all. When the notice about heirs hit the paper in July of this year I asked him about it. He again tried to say he owned it through an action. And action never took place. It shows tammy paid taxes this year as well. It shows next years taxes will be paid by the bank. No where is my land lords name on any deed or taxes for this property.
A: Make an appointment to see a lawyer as son as possible. Bring all the documents you have dealing with this mess. Do it today. Don't delay. I repeat, do it today. In the meantime, until you have met with the lawyer, don't pay the so-called landlord another dime.
