Asked in Civil Litigation and Traffic Tickets for New Jersey

Q: What should I do in this case? How can I proof I never got that ticket or that I was never stopped by an officer.

I haven't been stopped in forever for any reason or haven't received any ticket by mail. I received a letter stating that my License was suspended because of a traffic ticket of 6 months ago that I never received on a town I haven't been. Please Help! Thank you!

A: Best way is to hire a good lawyer. Second best way is to understand that you do not need to be stopped by a police officer to get a ticket and understand that it is generally mailed regular mail to your address on file with MVC. If they had your wrong address which is generally the case why someone did not get the ticket or notice of it, that is your fault. Generally most judges don't buy the I didn't get it excuse, because you would have also gotten letters from lawyers about your ticket, thus you should have been warned about the ticket even if you never got it. Again your best defense is to hire a good lawyer.

A: You should go to the municipal court in the town where it says you got the ticket and ask for the copy of the ticket to find out the officer who wrote it and go next door to the police dept and ask to speak to the officer to find out what this is all about.
