Lakewood, CA asked in Animal / Dog Law for California

Q: can animal control take my dogs if the vet says they are fine and just old not sick?

Both of my dogs are 15 years old they still jump and play with people they know. They do have a skin allergy that makes them loose hard during the winter. Other than that they have the standard old age looks. (Gray hairs and moles) the animal control in my city gave me a note on a worning notice that I have 24hr to take them to a vet or they will take my dogs after I told them they are old and have a skin allergy. I took them to the vet and the vet said they dont look abused or mistreated in any way they are just old and very healthy. The vet filled out a note saying that he checked them and they both have skin allergy and are fine. So I'm hoping that that's enough for the animal control to leave us alone now because it was a $200 vet check up.

A: If the note was to take them to the vet, and you did that, it sounds like you complied and there would be no basis to take the dogs.
