Spring, TX asked in Civil Rights and Criminal Law for Texas

Q: Police officer lied on police report, what should I do?

I looked into his background and he was fired from a previous police department for lying on police reports. He also, inexplicably, removed his body camera half way through talking to him.

A: What type of situation are you talking about? Are you facing criminal charges? If so, enter a plea of not guilty and set your case for trial.

A: Ask your criminal defense attorney if your case turns on the officer's character for truthfulness.

Some prosecutions depend on the officer's credibility. For example, cases where the officer witnessed the alleged crime or when the officer had reasonable suspicion or probable caused based on his training and experience.

Other prosecutions rely on other evidence or the testimony of other witnesses, so they don't really depend on the officer's credibility.

The officer's credibility problem might be a HUGE big deal or it might amount to nothing much. Your criminal defense attorney is the only one with access to the evidence and information necessary to give you an accurate assessment.
