Stanford, KY asked in Traffic Tickets for Kentucky

Q: What penalties am I looking at, best and worse case scenario, and what can I do to lessen my chance of jail time?

I live and work in KY but never got a new ID after I moved back here from Texas. I got pulled over for running a red light, I didn’t have time to stop, and I’ve never had a drivers license. My wife had a serious migraine at work and I ran home for her medication. Told the officers I didn’t have a license and left with 5 violations:disregarding traffic cont dev-traffic light, license to be in possession, no operators-moped license, failure to produce insurance card, and no registration receipt. The officer pushed court date back as far as he could and told me to go get my permit and insurance and all before then and the Judge would go easier on me. But I don’t know what I can do to prepare, and what kind of fines and stuff I’ll be charged. I’m only 19, it’s my first offense, and I really want to be a state trooper when I get older. I don’t want to mess up my career over something like this.

A: Get your permit, registration and six months insurance. Hire a lawyer if you can. It is highly unlikely that you will receive anything other that fines and court costs.
