Bellmawr, NJ asked in Civil Litigation, Contracts, Criminal Law and Appeals / Appellate Law for New Jersey

Q: I purchased my car off a mechanic lot that was allowing a person to sell off it, the seller was never there to put on

the temp plates on my car. He left them in my front seat along with a pink sheet for registration which was not filled out correctly and did not have my real NJ Drivers License number on it. I bought in NJ and the temp tag and registration and title where all issued from PA. I signed "shady" paperwork from a company that is no longer in business, did not have the additional terms and conditions attached, and witnessed the actual owner sign off on this paperwork. I bought the car on 11/24/17 and there was a problem with the ABS module so the mechanic that the car was showcased on fixed the problem. I received a phone call right after the mechanic closed on 12/5/17 stating that they were about to close, my key was on the tire, and my temp plate and registration paper was on my front seat and I could go pick it up then. Basically within the next couple days the check engine light came on and the trans was bad. I didn't receive my title until after1/11/18 the same day it was titled in PA
