Q: Is making a multiple choice game show with pixelated videos without original audio count as fair use?
I want to make a YouTube channel, were I use copyrighted material for a guessing game. In these videos, I take small clips from movies, TV shows, or Internet videos. I pixelate the videos and switch the audio out with one of YouTube's royalty free music. The clip would be less than 30 seconds. Then a shot with the multiple choice question appears and the viewer chooses from a, b or c. After 10 or so seconds, the correct answer appears with a unpixelated screen shot of the clip. The video then follows the same steps for different videos.
Example: A pixelated clip of the Alien coming out of the stomach from the movie, Alien.
Play a less 30 second clip.
Goes into a multiple choice question: what movie is this?
a. predator b. the thing c. Alien
Unpixelated shot of the clip with c. Alien on the bottom.
A:
You are skating on very thin ice. I would not recommend you do this without proper licenses.
It is a great idea, but fraught with legal minefields.
