Q: 2/11/19: got a ticket in Mercer Co., NJ for driving without a license (it had expired 3 days prior on 2/8/19)
Did not realize it'd expired (thought it was following year). Ticket for this offense says license expiration is 2/28/19. Do I have a case to drop the ticket, since the date on the ticket is not correct (and would indicate license was still valid)? I have since renewed my license (same day, before I even left the traffic stop so that I would be legal to drive).
A: Probably not to drop the case, but you can probably get the Prosecutor to lower the charge to a basic failure to have in possession which is just a small fine

A: Unfortunately the police officers error would be considered a clerical error and ignored by the court. best bet is to get yourself a good lawyer if you want to make sure you get off this charge, otherwise if you're not risk adverse you can try going to court yourself

A: Your more reliable approach would be to let prosecutor know it's an innocent oversight and you had your situation addressed immediately after being notified of the problem.
