Q: Are pit bull/husky mix allowed in Costilla county Colorado ?
A: You should call the local animal control to make sure, but the pit bull ban usually depends on whether or not the dog has 51% or more characteristics that resemble a pit bull. So if your dog looks more husky than pit bull, you are more than likely okay
A: Colorado enacted legislation prohibiting breed bans in 2004, but subsequent court rulings held that the state statute is not applicable to home rule municipalities (for example Denver and Aurora). Costillo County is a political subdivision of the state, (counties do not have independent sovereignty) so must follow state law. I have been practicing breed ban defense in CO for over six years and have never seen anything come out of Costillo county for a breed ban and it's not on lists kept by national organizations that track BSL (breed specific legislation). That being said, if the authorities are telling you there in a ban, you need to request the county ordinance and then consult with a breed ban defense expert to know your rights.
