A: It is impossible to know for sure if a patent application is in the pipeline but not yet granted (you might see a marking that says patent pending but that is not legally required).

To the extent that there is an issued design patent, then a competent company will list the patent on the product or at least the container that the product is in when sold to the end user. So that is one way to check.

A second way to check is to check the assignee in the database of patent assignments. https://assignment.uspto.gov/patent/index.html#/patent/search Checking for the name of the company that sells the product is a good step but may not work if the patent is owned by a patent holding company or the company that makes the product for the company known to consumers.
