Washington, DC asked in Landlord - Tenant for Virginia

Q: When is the signed rental lease starts from? From the date of signing the lease. Or from the date of taking position?

I have signed a lease for one year apartment rental via email electronically from another State on 04/29/2018. I did not arrive to Virginia to take (position) of the apartment and pay the first month rent until 04/02/2018. Now I am required to leave the Apartment on 04/29/2019 which is 5 days prior to the one year anniversary of moving in to the apartment. (Is this legal?) (If it is not legal, kindly could you please cite the law!)

A: The lease you signed should have on the document the date that the lease term begins and the date the lease terms ends. If the end of the lease term is 4/29/19, that is binding on you, the tenant, and you must vacate the premises, unless the landlord grants you an extension.
