Bound Brook, NJ asked in Traffic Tickets for New Jersey

Q: Can traffic court deny new date request based on full time student with classes on scheduled court date?

Received speeding ticket and assigned court date after not guilty plea that conflicts with college class attendance. Requested 10 day delay to allow for classes and finals to be completed so as to not conflict with appearance date. Clerk indicated this was not possible and scheduled court date for worst possible date and hand wrote on notice that no further extension allowed, even though the court date assigned wasn't an extension in the first place. Any advice on what to do?

A: You have no right to an adjournment it is always within the courts discretion. In this case since your request was denied you must go to court otherwise you have the possibility of a warrant being issued. I would suggest hiring a lawyer as a lawyer could not only probably lower the points but also may get the adjustment that you want.
