Q: so my boyfriend basically threatened me that if i leave him he will have me arrested for check forgery.

but my question is can i even tho the check was never deposited and no money was ever taken. the check was from my school and it came in my boyfriends name, and i knew he wouldnt give me the money, so i signed it so it would go into my account, but my bank doesnt except 3rd party checks and it never went thru

A: Sounds like you did attempt forgery if your BF didn't give you permission to sign his name. The fact that the bank didn't cash the check just thwarted you from actually completing the act. Still, an attempt to do something illegal carries the same penalty as actually completing the illegal act, so it's little solace that your bank denied the third-party check.

The reality, however, is whether or not he'll actually carry out his threat -- and whether or not any such charges would actually stick. Such a threat by him is almost extortion itself, which is also illegal. I wouldn't let his threat keep you in the relationship if you want out. Next time, however, make sure your school sends a check to you in the correct name so this never happens again. Best of luck to you.
