Q: mid lease my landlord served me with a 30 day Notice to CR/lease addendum for a rent increase of 38%.

my landlord sent me a 30 day notice to CR/lease addendum in the middle of my lease year and they want me to come in and sign a paperwork pertaining to the same. They significantly increased my rent last year at the beginning of the lease but they did not give me a 30 day notice. Is this legal, why do they want me to sign to increase the rent instead of just increasing it. the reason for the increase is supposedly for the increased market value, which I do not believe my place is worth a 30% increase. I would like to move bec i am fed up. how should i respond to this, should i respond at all, or what is the move i need to make. i live with my 94 year old grandmother and this is causing her stress.

A: You answered your question at the end of it, in the statement about wanting to move.

If the landlord is trying to increase your rent before the end of the term set forth in the written lease, that will suffice as a valid reason for you to leave the place prior to the end of the lease. Find a better place to live.
