Houston, TX asked in Animal / Dog Law for Louisiana

Q: I rehomed my 3yr old purebred dog to a nice girl and her two boys.. Under a strict buyer return policy. She let her ex

Husband take the dog and now the kids are out of the picture and my dog is unhappy. Can I take him back ? I was not told about the situation till now about 4 months later.

She was supposed to only give the dog back to me and I would refund her. Now he is with another person I know nothing about other than he's a single man and my dog was placed with children on purpose she promised to give the dog back if she couldnt keep him. He isn't keeping up with any vet care visits at all or having his nails cut which are incredibly long. He refused to return the dog to me.

The dog was almost 3 years old when rehomed and I've had him since birth. I have his paperwork, microchip, rabies etc all in my name... As well as a signed (by the girl) contact.

I have paid to find the mans address which is 3 hours away from me my contact also stated that I would refund the fee for him and pick him up anywhere. What can I do to get him back ?

A: I strongly recommend you go to your Justice of the Peace and file a claim for "Conversion" against both husband and wife. The Justice of the Peace will have forms for you. In your claim, assert what the price for that kind of purebred dog is and ask for "Specific Performance" by return of the dog.
