Elizabeth City, NC asked in Traffic Tickets for North Carolina

Q: Can I get my speeding ticket dropped police crossed median and tailed me for more than a 1/4 of a mile w/ no indicators?

The policemen tailed me for over a quarter of a mile with less than a car link between us. He then asks me for my license but not for my registration. This clearly depicted that he had run my tag prior to putting his lights on. He received my license and then asked if this was my vehicle. To me, this was a discriminatory statement that clearly indicated targeting. I asked him about relationship building. I asked him why would he not build better relationships with drivers by giving a verbal warning for safety purposes instead of issuing a ticket when the driver is in total compliance. He could/didn't answer that question. He agreed that I was most kind and cooperative. However, it still issued the ticket. He stated that he clocked me at 60/45. However, when I looked at my speedometer, I was at 58 after coming off of a face paced highway. Now, I missed my court date and I am trying to call to see what I need to do. Any advise. Thank you for being available.

A: Let me get this straight. You admit and knew you were speeding but felt entitled to a warning because, as you put it, you believe speeding 58/45 is being 'in total compliance'. You seem to think the things the officer did during stopping you were inappropriate - they weren't. And to top it all off - you aren't even responsible enough to handle the ticket by your court date. Your best bet would be to hire a traffic attorney. If you attempt to handle this your self and you speak to the Clerks or the Assistant District Attorney in the same entitled the way you indicated that you did to the officer - you likely won't have a good experience. You have 20 days from the date that you missed your ticket to take care of things or the court with impose a $200 penalty and DMV will take steps to suspend your license.
