Fort Wayne, IN asked in Child Custody for Ohio

Q: I have shared custody in Ohio. Have been offered a promotion 3 hours away. Can I move?

Already live over an hour away from father so son is used to not having dad near. Father hasn't been overly involved, and is behind on child support. I have filed a Notice of Intent to Relocate. Will I be grated permission to go? How long does the process take? My job starts in 4 weeks.

A: The other parent can request a hearing on the relocation. If he does, the court will consider all the facts and evidence properly presented, and decide what changes to the custody are in the best interest of the child. If you and he can agree on what to do, then you and he can file an agreed change of custody with the court. Use the Find a Lawyer tab to retain a local family law attorney to assist in making that change, or if you receive notice of a hearing.
