Athens, GA asked in Bankruptcy for Georgia

Q: Bankruptcy Cahpter 7 - When should I stop paying my bills.

I have recently consulted an attorney and decided to file chapter 7; however, I need to wait to file for 3 - 6 months. I am current on all my Bill's never missed a payment, and I'm confused on when should I stop paying my credit card and loan debts. Should I start now or wait until I'm ready to file, from my understanding it takes several months to process a bankruptcy, but when does my filing date actually start? I know you shouldn't make payment or purchase on cards for at least 3 months.

A: The best answer is to stop now if you’re eligible to file. The filing date starts when the petition is filed with the court. Consult your attorney and he will help you make the right decision.
