Q: Can my 17 year old son plead guilty to felony charges without a parent present?
My 17 year old son (who is currently being detained at a juvenile detention center) recently agreed to plead guilty to several charges including at least one felony without the advice or presence of his parents. When his mother and I walked into the court room our son had already plead guilty to all the charges he was facing. How can the Kentucky courts let a juvenile do that without a parent present ? Is that legal?
A: No. That should not have happened.
