Bardstown, KY asked in Animal / Dog Law for Kentucky

Q: What can i do about a stray jumping our fence and getting to our female pup.

we have a fence around our back property that keeps our 3 dogs in. 1 fixed male and 2 not fixed females. they cant get out of the fence. a male (not fixed) stray has made his way to our yard and jumped the fence we cant tell if he has gotten to our 8 pound female who is in heat for the first time. we have checked our cameras and saw him jump the fence but sadly there are some blind spots due to our deck being in the way of the view, so we are unsure if he made contact with her. we took him to the humane society last night. his owners must have gotten him out because he is back and jumping our fence again. our dogs are in side and i cant let them out. i have called animal control and left a voicemail. is there anything i can do if my pup ends up pregnant? can i make the owners of the stray pay for her vet bills due to the fact she is a small breed dog and he is a 50-60 pound dog. thanks in advance for the help.

A: Take your dog to the vet and if she is pregnant, terminate the pregnancy. As soon as she’s out of heat, have her spayed. Depending on the leash laws where you are, you may be qble to require the owners to pay your vet bills.
