A: If you are a named beneficiary on any of these accounts, you can contact the financial institution yourself and inquire about the status of disbursement of your share. If there were no named death beneficiaries, then you should contact a probate attorney to help you with the probate process. If the dollar amounts are small, you might be able to use a small estate affidavit to collect them. If they are sizable, you will need to open a probate (court) case. As an heir at law, you can petition to the court to probate your father's estate and even appoint you as executor if the executor named in your father's will is not getting the job done.
