Q: Am I allowed to get out of my lease early if my boyfriend & I lost our jobs? We still 8 months on our lease

A: It depends on what the contract says and if your landlord is being flexible to the terms. Most leases clearly state and lease term (such as 12 months) as well as renewel terms (such as automatic renewal unless one party cancels in writing so many days before the renewal starts). If you are stuck with the 8 months ASAP read your lease terms and contact your landlord. Meanwhile understand you are likely responsible for the remaining 8 months unless someone tells you otherwise. Quickly craft an exit strategy with details on where you can live, where you can find new income/jobs, if you can borrow money to pay the lease, etc. Best of luck!
